There’s a great experience waiting for you just down the street at 123 4th St. SW. We’ve got a bunch of well-behaved but enthusiastic high school students who want to discuss good books and issues of the day, get some one-on-three help with their math (they’ll be so grateful!), and find a mentor.
It’s local, convenient, and fun. For one semester, you’ll be introduced to some of the next generation of Albuquerque young adults, 95% of whom are headed to college (and in fact, some are already taking college classes). You’ll get training, lots of support, and the satisfaction of helping young people on their way. Call Tina Garcia-Shams at 468-0631.

Literature Circles
Do you love to read and discuss literature? Join our Literature Circles. Read and discuss books with insightful and enthusiastic students. Literature Circles, including fiction and non-fiction texts, have been a valuable part of the Humanities curriculum and continue to provide opportunities for different generations to learn from each other. Each Literature Circle has 1 adult and 5 students who meet for one hour a week to discuss the book.
Community Panelist
ABHS Students frequently present their learning in the form of public exhibitions. These exhibitions are judged by teachers, parents, students and community members. Examples of exhibitions for which panelists are needed include: The Trial of John Brown, Mai Lai Massacre Trial, Supreme Court Education Case Briefings, Writing Portfolio Exhibition, Individual Science Projects, Social Action Carnival.
Project Week
Project week, taking place each fall and spring semester, is an opportunity to bring groups of Amy Biehl students together with a community mentor around a shared topic of interest. Whether you love bicycling, measuring the size of the universe or have a passion knitting, you are perfect to share your hobby with our students. Mentors facilitate a workshop around any topic of their choice for a group of 10-15 students for 2 ½ hours each morning (Tuesday-Friday). Don’t forget: you’ll have fun!
